Khaled El Emam, Replica Analytics’ co-founder and SVP and GM will join this LinkedIn Live discussion, PrivTech Talks: Privacy tech in health care and medical research – a game changer for collaboration? Recent advances in AI-assisted analytics and medical imaging have led to unprecedented possibilities in healthcare and research. Internationally, hospitals produce 50 petabytes of data per year, including clinical notes, lab tests, medical images, sensor readings, and genomics data, of which 97% goes unused. To tap into this data for the public benefit, trust in privacy-respecting processing of personal health information is crucial. This LinkedIn Live will dive into various privacy-enhancing technologies and how they can enable gaining data insights from data that is not shared (such as in federated learning or multiparty computation), from data that stays encrypted while being computed upon (like homomorphic encryption), or is only mimicking the patterns of the original information (such as in synthetic data). Speakers will share use cases, and explain the benefits and state of the art of available tools for better privacy and IP protection while supporting trust and collaboration in health care and medical research. This discussion will be moderated by Katharina Koerner, Principal Researcher, Technology, IAPP. The other panelists are Shafi Goldwasser, Chief Scientist and Co-founder, Duality, as well as Director of the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing, Professor at MIT, and Andrew Trask, Senior Research Scientist, DeepMind and Leader, OpenMined.
